LiDAR Map of Norfolk

Norfolk's flat, low-lying landscape is one of the best places in England to spot subtle earthworks from the air. Iron Age forts, deserted medieval villages and Bronze Age barrows that are almost invisible on the ground often show up clearly once you strip away vegetation with LiDAR.

From the Broads in the east to the Fens on the western border, DEFRA's open elevation data covers the whole county at high resolution, letting you switch between a standard map and a LiDAR terrain view side by side.

Norfolk had more reported treasure finds than any other English county in 2024 — around 17% of treasure cases among the top ten counties that year, recorded via the Portable Antiquities Scheme. Source: Government Official Statistics
